Baby I’m a dud

While everywhere in the country fireworks are going off and people are being drunk and silly, I am here just chillin in my bed. What is a party? People stay up after 10pm? I don’t know what you’re talking about!

This weekend has been relatively uneventful except for watching the Inside and Out movie this morning maybe. My boyfriend has a thing for Pixar movies and so we went and saw it. It was alright. Didn’t blow me off my feet, but nothing except for Dachshunds does anyway.

I officially only have three weeks left at my internship and it’s pretty scary! Mostly because I don’t have a clue what I’m gona do after it. I still have two and a half weeks that I was gona use to travel somewhere but I don’t really know where and I kinda need to not spend too much money anymore, sooo I better find a place that is super cheap and awesome. I really wanted to go up north to Portland and Seattle but it seems like quite the trip from here. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.

Yesterday we went on a really nice hike. I forgot what the place was called. Something with Wild Ranch. It was near Santa Cruz. Kinda similar to Ano Nuevo (another beach hiking trail very close to it) except that this park has bunnies and snakes. I actually saw two (!) real snakes irl this time!!! That’s record breaking for my animal spotting that I do when I go to places that aren’t the mall. And even at the mall I still like to look out for weiner dogs. You might think I’m creepy when I tell you this, but I like to just go to parks to watch dogs play. I don’t try to lure them into my car with candy! I promise!

So Wild Ranch was cool. I liked it there. I like hikes. Part of me wants to go on a bigger hike that requires hiking shoes and a water bottle. Maybe even camping. But preferably with a van or an rv because I am scared that someone or something will come and kill me in the night and that’s not ok.

Land of the free.

Hello!
It’s me again. The person with the burrito obsession. You remember? Good.
This week is relatively short since 4th of July is coming up (duh) and people actually get a day off of work on Friday. So that’s pretty crazy. So. Many. Opportunities! It literally puts me in a weird position where I feel like I should make plans because everyone is up to something. I am not a huge firework fan though. I don’t really care about them to be honest. So I don’t think that that’s something we are going to do. We will see.

images
Either way, today I wanted to talk to you about the very important and newsworthy topic of equality and my stand on the situation, especially here in the U.S.. As you hopefully know, last Friday the supreme court made same sex marriage legal in America and that WAS/IS a HUUUGE deal! Because we all know that America still practices a lot of discrimination of many kinds and we also know that America sets the example for a lot of other countries. Being from Germany, I can tell you that America is the country that a lot Europeans look up to. And I hope that Germany especially looks up to America now, since for some ridiculous reason we have not legalized same sex marriage in Germany. So I think part of the reason why we look up to America so much is the fact that Americans are generally very confident and grow up being encouraged to do what they love. Good job this, good job that. I think they are therefore very good at a lot of things that people from other countries aren’t so good at because some people are kinda forced to pursue a career that pays well instead of doing something they like. So Americans are great at everything except brewing beer maybe. Or baking bread. Winky face. But Americans also like to show off with what they have more than any other population in the world. So it seems to other countries that Americans are not only rich but also extremely happy with themselves. And everyone wants to be rich and happy! The image of the country where you can live your dream is still very much projected, even though it is not always accurate. And as I said before, the way I see it is that Americans are very much encouraged in what they do and to say what they think, which also makes them think that their opinion is important and that they should pass it on. And that is great for any good kind of opinion but any kind of opinion usually has a counterpart of the opposite opinion. You like bananas, your neighbor hates bananas. You are for same sex marriage, your aunt might be against it. And these are things people argue about…Americans also like to label their opinion – ‘I’m a cat person’, ‘I’m a meatlover’…. You can buy dozens of T-Shirts stating your preference of any kind in this country. People want other people to know what their deal is and that is cool but it can lead to controversy, jealousy and even hate. And controversy is what this country is all about in my opinion. This labelling thing again is something we do not do very much in Germany (which doesn’t mean that ignorance and discrimination doesn’t exist). However, I hope you get the point – Some opinions should be valued and others shouldn’t. Being liberal and accepting of everyone no matter where they come from or what their story is, is a very important opinion and lifestyle that needs to be passed on, but it obviously also has a strong following of the opposite opinion too, which is natural (because everyone is raised differently and makes different experiences that leave an impact on the psychological pattern in our brain. And some people simply aren’t strong enough to seperate themselves from an opinion that is projected onto them by other people). It all makes sense. This is why we need to educate ourselves and love each other and agree on one thing: Violence and discrimination are terrible things and must not be encouraged. In any way. It has never helped ANYONE. EVER. It is awful enough that history taught us stupid rules of society that made us think that it is not ok to love someone of the same gender. It is not very long ago that women with red hair would be burnt because they were labelled as witches. Well, hate against people is always the same no matter who you hate for whatever reason. And I hope everyone agrees that burning red haired women because they were believed to be witches, is extremely ridiculous. It happened hundreds of years ago, but when it comes down to it, it is the same thing as hating people of a different heritage, people with a different sexual orientation or whatever else their story is – Discrimination is NOT OK.
My point is that the decision that was made by the supreme court is important and does matter very much. Not just for Americans but for the whole world.

I don’t believe in any kind of group that excludes others and doesn’t encourage peace. And now lets stop bombing other countries and try to pass on love instead of hate.

Not ashamed to admit that I’m a hippy by the way. Goodbye xx

Let sloths rule the world

Hey freaks,

It has been an eventful week and and weekend. The Giants game turned out to be alright. Don’t worry, I didn’t get beaten up. My friend Antoine borrowed me his Giants baseball cap that I wore as a disguise. Didn’t want any of the Caltrain riders to recognize me and my angry face. So that went fine and the Giants even won (that’s what I heard – I obviously didn’t stay until the end). Do I hate the Giants fans any less now? No, they still annoy me on the train.

On Friday night we embarked on a little adventure down south. My boyfriend is a big fan of sloths. I honestly never really understood their appeal. I mean they’re lazy and that’s cool, but they’re not like dachshunds or anything like that. They don’t look like hot dogs or any other kind of food. But anyway all animals are friends and if he likes sloths, then I’m all for it. I can also understand why he likes them so much because he sometimes also enjoys to do nothing. Not to the point where he grows algae on his back, but if he didn’t have a job…. who knows. Also sloths are cute looking. They look like they’re high all the time. So we went to the Wildlife Reservation Center in Sylmar that basically cares for rescued animals like eagles, wild cats, pocupines, turtles, crocodiles and sloths. We got to meet Lola the sloth who really enjoys shaking her butt. I learned that sloths are super peaceful (duh), they only eat fruit and veggies and they have no natural enemies. Not a soul in the world wants to mess with them or even eat them. Well if that isn’t a powerful message then I don’t know what is! We need more sloths in the world!

photo 1 (22)

After the sloth magic we ventured on to Ostrichland. Ostrichland is an ostrich farm close to Santa Barbara where you get to feed the ostriches. And if you’re lucky they won’t eat your head off. Seriously, ostriches are VERY greedy and mean. Pretty much the opposite of sloths. But the baby ones were cute to look at.

We then went to Solvang, which is a really strange little town that is supposed to look like Denmark. It was weird and made me realize once again that I feel way more comfortable in America than in Europe. I just don’t feel like I fit in over there. But obviously my family means a lot to me and always will.

Today is a slow day. Nothing big going on. I hope you all enjoy your Sunday sloth-style. xxx

Wild child.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I went out tonight! Weird, I know! I mean I pretty much forgot what that even means. I barely leave the house and when I do, I make sure that I come home before it’s dark outside and the bats come out. It’s funny because it’s true.
My co-worker organized this concert tonight and invited us all and I decided that I would go. Because I like my co-worker and I can’t be boring EVERY day! So Antoine (my intern buddy) and I went to the Castro for 10$ all you can eat tacos and all you can drink beer. So 10$ for both of that. Infinite tacos & infinite beer = infinite happyness. And we didn’t even have to take out clothes off for any of that! So that’s a plus. Here’s another thing that never happens: Me getting drunk. But guess what – It kinda happened. I drank three cups of miller lite and it kinda did its job. I’m litely millered, umm I mean wasted. I mean I was. After the taco/beer thing I was promised cookies. But while aimlessly walking around for half an hour looking for a rainbow crosswalk and cookies, we gave up and went straight to the show. The theme of the show was Gothic Luaou. Gothic Hawaii. You get it. Scary looking belly dancers, rotten pineapples, headless surfers…the usual thing. I was dressed appropriately wearing a hawaiian dancer shirt and effortlessly looking like a zombie. People liked the look. Either way, it was another good show and I enjoyed hanging out with the co-workers. They’re a nice bunch. I don’t hate them.

So getting on the train home, it was obviously packed with Giants fans again. Because every time I take the train it is packed with Giants fans, no matter what time it is. But I really have to give them cudos – These guys stay up late on week days, show up in packs all dressed up in orange and black, not because they like Orange is the new black (hah) but only TO MAKE MY LIFE HARDER!? Seems quite the effort to me. Anyway, tomorrow the unthinkable is going to happen – I’m facing my biggest enemies – I’m going to a Giants game. Yeah, it’s pretty gross. It’s a work thing. If it was up to me, we would all go to the Hello Kitty Cafe and eat burritos but nobody asked me. So I’m going to have to suck it up and deal with it. I’m just hoping that the game won’t take 6 hours. I honestly would rather work for six hours than sitting there being forced to watch baseball. The only thing I care about is that this is where Kanye proposed to Kim. These are the important things in life, letsbehonest. Speaking of Kim – She is coming to Oakland on Tuesday to speak about feminism. Seems like a joke but it isn’t.
You know who’s cool?! You.
Ok, that’s it. Good night. x

Weekend shenanigans (I’m too old for this).

OMG, you guys! Like seriously. WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND!

As you all know I had Friday off and got the whole day to relax and prepare stuff for the weekend. My surprise ended up a success even though parts of it left quite a mess… I thought that it would be a good idea to make s’mores cupcakes and pizza after I had already cleaned the house. Well I kinda improvised on the cupcakes and ended up making a sticky mess with marshmallows all over myself and the kitchen. But they tasted pretty good. At least that’s something.

On Saturday I got to go to Warped Tour for work. Here’s a little tale: Obviously I never went to Warped Tour as press (only as a crazy fan) so I had no idea what I was in for. I just filled out the press application and miraculously got approved (hooray!).  Shortly after, I was sent an interview request form where you could check all the bands that you wanted to interview there. Well since my company isn’t very big and chances were that other media outlets were going to request interviews also, I just checked six random bands including the headliners (duh), thinking that it probably wouldn’t work out. And then I submitted that form and didn’t hear back from them. However, all of a sudden, I got like 30 requests from other bands that all wanted to do an interview with me (?!). So I was like ‘whoa, ok.’ I responded to one artist because he was literally the first one to contact me and emailed with a couple of other people. But since it was also my boyfriend’s birthday I knew I wasn’t going to be there very long. Luckily I also had my coworker Leeann with me… So as we got there and checked in with the press rep, she said: “Oh you guys have A LOT today!” It turned out that in addition to the bands we emailed with, ALL other interviews I requested on that sheet also got approved.  My head almost exploded. I literally could not think straight and my eyes started tearing again. Not that I hadn’t prepared the interviews, it was just A LOT to pack into like three hours. But surprisingly it all went pretty well and I got my interviews with bands like Silverstein and Bebe Rexha done. They will all be on the company’s blog (http://blog.eventseeker.com)  in the next two weeks, so keep an eye out. I also got to take some pics of Escape The Fate as they were one of the very first bands to perform.

By the way: I was wearing a hat all weekend to prevent myself from getting a heat stroke (happened to me before, wasn’t pretty) and ended up getting complimented like every 5 minutes. I naturally came to the conclusion that the more I hide of my face, the better people like it. From now on I will only leave the house wearing hat, sunglasses and a fake beard.

After Warped we had dinner and then went to Carmel. Carmel is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE ON EARTH! Or at leat in California. I fell in love with it two years ago when I did couchsurfing with this old cheeese and wine enthusiast who also brewed his own beer and ended up being pretty enthusiastic about me and my friend in the middle of the night…Anyway, that’s a different story. Carmel is gorgeous and definitely worth a visit. We took a long walk on the beach at sunset and had some amazing dinner at the hog’s breath inn.

Today I bought more clothes because we passed the Gilroy outlet center and you cannot pass it without stopping there. It literally is shopping heaven. Ugh.

Now trying to recover from everything. I hope you guys had an awesome weekend! xx

Dad Bods.

Hello dear reader of my blog,

I know at least one of you is probably like ‘Oh, where are the Friday Faves?’ Or ‘WTF, no selfie?’, but the truth is I am restructuring my blog. Things evolve you know. People get wiser and also older. I’m halfway up to 30 now and you know what that means: NO MORE SELFIES! Not even for private purposes. So I best get used to not posting my face one the web anymore. And plus it’s not a great face. These selfies take a lot of work you know. Every time I try to take a selfie it’s like trying to capture a very rare whale jumping out of the water. It’s hard to get a good shot. But anyway, today is Friday and I have a lot of stuff to do for this weekend as it is my boyfriend’s birthday tomorrow and  we will go away for the night. And it’s also Warped Tour tomorrow and I have to interview a bunch of people for work. So enough of my ramblings, let’s get down to business. Today I am going to talk to you about dad bods. I don’t know if you are familiar with the term but it basically stands for the sexual appeal of men who look like they have never seen a gym before. It has become quite the phenomenon on the web. Women are very much into that type of man now. Leonardo DiCaprio started the trend, I think, and now a bunch of guys feel like trendsetters because they never work out. My question is WHICH CRAZY WOMAN STARTED THIS SHIT!???

hot-dad-bod-600x377

I mean if you know me, you would know that I’m not super high maintenance when it comes to stuff like that. I like a nice beard and if you are a nice guy then I really don’t care about a certain body type BUT fact is that women are always pressured into looking flawless and being skinny. The skinnier, the better. If you are anorexic: ‘Oh congrats, good for you!’ And if you are a little chubby: ‘Ewww that’s disgusting’ –At least that is the image that media, instagram and the whole body shaming thing deliver and support. How can we idolize guys that don’t take care of themselves and yet hate ourselves the second we notice the tiniest imperfection on our body? When is there going to be a trend for MOM BODS? Or even better: NO BODY TREND AT ALL. Just acknowledge people for who they are and see the beauty in everyone without being a certain stereotype.  Everyone is different and that’s great! And let’s be honest: Guys have it pretty easy to be begin with. They don’t need beauty products to enhance their looks and the wilder they look, the more appealing they are to women. To me the whole dad bod thing is the ultimate surrender of women to men.  What else can we do to make their lives easier? Smh…

Enjoy your weekend lovers xx

Spaceshit.

My humps, my humps, my humps, my humps! Lalala…

It’s hump day y’all! This week has been going incredibly slow for some reason. I think it’s because I now work Fridays too and that makes my week just so much longer. BUT the warriors won and that means that there’s a parade on Friday to celebrate the victory over Lebron’s penis, which leads to me not having to work kind of. Yay!!! Woop woop! I do have some major weekend plans, so I really need this Friday to set up stuff and plan and get my hair did and sleep and eat. Sleep in order to be fresh for an eventful weekend. You get it. Eat so I grow strong like a tree. A burrito tree. Anyway, I was going to talk to you about stuff that is happening in the world other than the warrior’s victory and  Lebrons men parts. Remember how I went to that food festival two weeks ago? Well, if you don’t: I went to a food festival two weeks ago! And it was all kinds of awesome. One thing they did have there (ATTENTION confectionery friends!) was 3D printed food and cake toppers. Here’s a photo of this thing that came out of a printer and ended up in my stomach:

Well honestly I did not eat that. I mean NO. First of all it was really big and also I don’t think it would’ve tasted very good. Also it came out of a printer. I’m not a robot. But anyway, in this country you can go 3D Print stuff at FedEx. I don’t actually know what you can print there.. I’m assuming it’s guns and chicken wings. It’s pretty scary to me that this whole 3D printing exists. You need to know that people actually 3D print organs. It takes forever but the point is that it is happening and in the near future YOU will be able to print yourself a liver (if you’re a heavy drinker) or a new nose (if you look like a Greek philosopher like me). So that’s pretty cool.

I hope everyone is printing themselves a good rest of the week xx

Jurassic Dachshund World.

Happy Sunday!!

I hope everyone is chillaxing and treating themselves to sleep and food and other weekend fun. I spent most of this weekend sleeping (uh huh) but also watching Orange is the new Black, doing yoga, watching Jurassic World and going to a pet adoption thing.

First of all. Let me just tell you that Jurassic World is not all that. It’s an alright movie but it’s definitely not as spectacular as people make it out to be. And I like dinosaurs and Chris Pratt but part of me wished it was Dachshund World and the Hero being my boyfriend or Ryan Gosling. Except that the Dachshund wouldn’t be vicious but just incredibly cute. And the super weiner would be a genetically modified Dachshund who can make burritos and enjoys giving back massages. And of course I would be the hot chick who would live happily ever after with Ryan my boyfriend and the pups. After the movie we came by a pet adoption event they had going on Petsmart or something like that. Thank god I don’t live here because I would’ve adopted all the pets including the bearded lizzards and the crickets that they feed them. I can’t tell you how badly I want a pet. Other people get these maternal instincts and want to have a baby and here I am just wanting a dog or at least a funny looking guinea pig.

3c7b8b9c0db655ec3990d5932f1413f5

Orange is the new Black however is everything I hoped it to be. I like how this season is showing flashbacks of the past lives of the different characters again and focusing on each story more rather than on one big plot. If you haven’t started watching it yet, I strongly recommend doing so.

Do you ever get really shaken up by movies or shows? I have a tendency to completely get lost in good (or at least exciting) movies or shows and end up feeling like I’m in the movie! Here are a few examples of what I’m talking about:

After watching Titanic – Still mourns Jack three years later and wonders what would’ve become of him.

After watching Batman – Walks through the city, almost gets killed by a psychopath, keeps going because we all know that Batman will come and fix it.

After watching Hook – Pfffft, fuck work. I’m just gona be a kid for the rest of my life. Who needs a job in Neverland!?

After  watching Californication – Tells myself to never trust a man ever. Marries a woman.

After watching Chef – Buys a food truck and brings Mexican Food to Germany.

After watching Drive – Gets in the car, plays REO Speedwagon, pretends that car is a race car. Gets speeding ticket. Ends up being really uncool.

After watching American Horror Story – Never sleeps again. Hears cracking sound, is convinced that evil spirits are coming to get her. Sits in a corner and rocks back and forth for a week. People at work ask if I partied to hard on the weekend because I seem tired and hungover. Says yes.

Today is a bit of a slow day but I’m enjoying the calm since next weekend will be crazy again. Hope everyone is having a great day! xx
